Project Description
Madeline Wilson was an Anzac nurse who served under her maiden name and then married an Australian soldier, Lawless-Pyne. Her service records, held under various surnames, were stored in multiple locations throughout Australia. Piecing together these documents revealed that Sister Wilson (AKA Lawless-Pyne) worked herself to exhaustion during two periods of enlistment. Sister Wilson was medically discharged with ‘soldier’s heart’, a form of post-traumatic stress. She died at the age of 99 and was buried in a War Grave on a cattle property in central Queensland.
